Too Tired for Dinner: What to do When Your Next Meal Seems Like No Fun

Updated: Feb 10

The struggle is real for all of us, and even the most organized of tired mothers doesn't feel in the mood to drop what they are doing and go to the kitchen to put even more time into something that possibly no one will thank them for.

For me its all about batch cooking, freezing for later, crock pot ideas and a list on the fridge....

Plan Ahead

Sit down and look online for new recipes, or brainstorm what you and your family like to eat. Make sure to include the ingredients on the next shopping list (try to grab enough items for days to come, and ensure you actually USE the items and MAKE the dishes - that's the satisfying part of this action step).

Put a list on the fridge of your dinner ideas to keep this (daunting) meal in mind.

Enlist the Help of Your Family

Somehow and someway get creative and involve your family. If this means they clean up and do the dishes - that's perfect! Can they wash, chop or put things back in the fridge for you? Set the table? Clear the table? Ask for the help. And if they don't do it right the first time, there's always 364 other days to try again.

Meals in Batches

This is a big one for me, and I try to make a second of something whenever I can freeze it. Buy freezable containers and think of the meals that you already make that you can double up on and look forward to taking out of the freezer when you want a simple oven meal.

Create an Atmosphere You Love

Music playing, clean up your surface work space, light a candle, pour your favorite beverage, put on a podcast or call a friend. Surround yourself in the things that bring you happiness when you are in the kitchen and do everything that YOU can to make it an experience that is empowering and enjoyable for you.

Simple Choices

Dinner doesn't have to be complicated and its good to have some easy 3 step dinner options on hand. There are lots of recipes that require just a few ingredients that you can keep stored in your freezer, fridge and pantry.

Since this is a daily task that typically falls on us Moms and it honestly does wear out the best of us on our most worn out days its definitely something to take into consideration when trying to make your life easier and less stressful. And at the end of the day, if you can afford it and you want to order the take-out for dinner, then by all means, order the delivery! ((No judgement here!! Just call me Mrs.Pizza hahaha))
